Too much is never enough?

One of the premier Gold Coast hotels hosted me in grand style this week -- everything was very lovely, shiny and high-end. This opulence gave some delegates and guests permission to over-consume, however. Masses of leftovers were ferried back to the kitchens, presumably destined for the rubbish bins, as Australian law forbids donation of restaurant leftovers to the forgotten and invisible needy in the community.

The freegans have got it right -- eat off the laps of the wealthy, and prevent obscene waste! Consider this folks -- if we produced just what we need, and shared the excess we'd go a way to redressing some of the inequities in our world, and our health and psyches would benefit as well.

Bellies wouldn't go hungry as often, and the spirit and action of generosity would expand our hearts. Surfers’ to me is a soulless city, despite the beauty of it's location. Not being a tourist, I'm immune to "tourist destinations", I guess; I was glad to get back to a humbler way of life. Food waste image care of treehugger.com
